The species Pseudoruegeria marinistellae was originally described by Zhang et al. 2017. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 175 in 2017. In 2021, Liang et al. established Pseudoruegeria marinistellae as the basonym of
Tropicimonas marinistellae (Zhang et al. 2017) Liang et al. 2022
.
