Nomenclatural History
The species Edwardiiplasma lactucae was originally described by Gupta et al. 2019. established as a later homotypic synonym of (Rose et al. 1990) Gasparich and Kuo 2019 in 2015. Gupta et al. formed this name in 2019 by placing the species (Rose et al. 1990) Tully et al. 1993 into the genus Gupta et al. 2019.

This taxonomic opinion conflicts with that of Entomoplasma lactucae (Rose et al. 1990) Gasparich and Kuo 2019.
