The species Myroides ceti was originally described by García-López et al. 2019. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 193 in 2020. García-López et al. formed this name in 2019 by placing the species Vela et al. 2007 emend. Kacagan et al. 2013 into the genus Vancanneyt et al. 1996 emend. García-López et al. 2019.
