The species Evansella polygoni was originally described and validly published by Gupta et al. 2020. Gupta et al. formed this name in 2020 by placing the species Aino et al. 2008 into the genus Gupta et al. 2020. Narsing Rao et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of (Nielsen et al. 1995) Gupta et al. 2020 in 2021.
