The species Streptomyces niveus was originally described by Smith et al. 1956. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Lanoot et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces caeruleus (Baldacci 1944) Pridham et al. 1958 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
in 2002. Tamura et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces laceyi Manfio et al. 2003
in 2008. Tamura et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Streptomyces spheroides Wallick et al. 1956 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Nouioui et al. 2018
in 2008.
