The species Streptomyces purpurogeneiscleroticus was originally described by Pridham 1970. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Garrity et al. established Streptomyces purpurogeneiscleroticus as a later homotypic synonym of
Chainia purpurogena Thirumalachar and Sukapure 1964 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2007.
