The species Chainia purpurogena was originally described by Thirumalachar and Sukapure 1964. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Garrity et al. established Chainia purpurogena as an earlier homotypic synonym of
Streptomyces purpurogeneiscleroticus Pridham 1970 (Approved Lists 1980) pro synon. Chainia purpurogena Thirumalachar and Sukapure 1964 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 2007.
