The species Spirochaeta smaragdinae was originally described by Magot et al. 1997. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 67 in 1998. In 2016, Shivani et al. established as the basonym of (Magot et al. 1998) Shivani et al. 2016 emend. Hördt et al. 2020 .
