The species Bacteroides endodontalis was originally described and validly published by van Steenbergen et al. 1984. In 1988, Shah and Collins established Bacteroides endodontalis as the basonym of
Porphyromonas endodontalis (van Steenbergen et al. 1984) Shah and Collins 1988 emend. Hahnke et al. 2016
