The species Bacteroides forsythus was originally described and validly published by Tanner et al. 1986. In 2002, Sakamoto et al. established Bacteroides forsythus as the basonym of
Tannerella forsythia corrig. (Tanner et al. 1986) Sakamoto et al. 2002
