Nomenclatural History

The species Lewinella nigricans was originally described and validly published by Sly et al. 1998. Khan et al. published an emended description of this species in 2007. Sly et al. formed this name in 1998 by placing the species
Herpetosiphon nigricans Lewin 1970 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Lewinella Sly et al. 1998 emend. Khan et al. 2007. In 2019, García-López et al. established Lewinella nigricans as the basonym of
Flavilitoribacter nigricans (Lewin 1970) García-López et al. 2020
.
