Nomenclatural History
The species Flexibacter maritimus was originally described and validly published by Wakabayashi et al. 1986. Bernardet and Grimont published an emended description of this species in 1989. Holmes established as an earlier homotypic synonym of (ex Hikida et al. 1979) Reichenbach 1989 pro synon. Flexibacter maritimus Wakabayashi et al. 1986 emend. Bernardet and Grimont 1989 in 1992. In 2001, Suzuki et al. established as the basonym of (Wakabayashi et al. 1986) Suzuki et al. 2001 .
