Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 31 in 1989. The species Cytophaga marina was originally described by Hikida et al. 1979. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1989 the name was revived by Reichenbach. Holmes established as a later homotypic synonym of Wakabayashi et al. 1986 emend. Bernardet and Grimont 1989 in 1992.
