Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Fusobacterium nucleatum polymorphum was originally described by Knorr 1922. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1990 the name was revived and validly published by Dzink et al.. Kook et al. elevated this subspecies to the rank of species to form the name (Dzink et al. 1990) Kook et al. 2022 in 2022.
