The genus Microcyclus was originally proposed by Ørskov 1928. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Raj replaced this illegitimate name with
Ancylobacter Raj 1983
in 1983.
Microcyclus is a junior homonym to the fungal genus Microcyclus, thus illegitimate.
