The species Levinea malonatica was originally described by Young et al. 1971. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Brenner et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of
Citrobacter koseri Frederiksen 1970 (Approved Lists 1980)
in 1993.
