Nomenclatural History
The species Bacillus axarquiensis was originally described and validly published by Ruiz-García et al. 2005. Dunlap et al. published an emended description of this species in 2016. Dunlap et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Ruiz-García et al. 2005 in 2016. Dunlap et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Delaporte and Sasson 1967 (Approved Lists 1980) in 2016.

Dunlap et al. 2016 asserts that Bacillus axarquiensis is not a heterotypic synonym of Bacillus mojavensis. This opinion disagrees with that of Wang et al. 2007.
