Nomenclatural History
The species Alcaligenes xylosoxidans was originally described by Kiredjian et al. 1986. In 1986, Kiredjian et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form (Yabuuchi and Yano 1981) Kiredjian et al. 1986 . Kiredjian et al. formed this name in 1986 by placing the species (ex Yabuuchi and Ohyama 1971) Yabuuchi and Yano 1981 emend. Yabuuchi et al. 1998 into the genus Castellani and Chalmers 1919 (Approved Lists 1980).

This name was suggested by Kiredjian et al. (1986) but did not include a formal proposal and is therefore considered to be an incidental mention of a name.
