Nomenclatural History

The subspecies Erwinia carotovora carotovora was originally described by Bergey et al. 1923. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. In 1923, Bergey et al. reduced
Erwinia carotovora (Jones 1901) Bergey et al. 1923 (Approved Lists 1980)
to the rank of subspecies. In 1998, Hauben et al. established Erwinia carotovora carotovora as the basonym of
Pectobacterium carotovorum carotovorum (Jones 1901) Hauben et al. 1999 emend. Gardan et al. 2003
