Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Pectobacterium carotovorum odoriferum was originally described by Hauben et al. 1998. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 68 in 1999. Gardan et al. published an emended description of this subspecies in 2003. Hauben et al. formed this name in 1998 by placing the subspecies Gallois et al. 1992 into the species (Jones 1901) Waldee 1945 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Portier et al. 2019 pro synon. Erwinia carotovora (Jones 1901) Bergey et al. 1923 (Approved Lists 1980). Portier et al. elevated this subspecies to the rank of species to form the name (Gallois et al. 1992) Portier et al. 2019 in 2019.
