Nomenclatural History
The species Geobacter sulfurreducens was originally described by Caccavo et al. 1994. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 54 in 1995. Viulu et al. published an emended description of this species in 2013. In 2013, Viulu et al. reduced this species to the rank of subspecies to form Caccavo et al. 2014 .
