Nomenclatural History
|
The genus Mycoplasma was originally proposed by Nowak 1929. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was placed onto the nomina taxorum conservanda by Judicial Opinion 22 in 1958. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 92 in 2014. Freundt published an emended description of this genus in 1974. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Gupta et al. in 2018. This name replaces the name
Asterococcus Borrel et al. 1910
. Neimark et al. transferred the members of
Haemobartonella Tyzzer and Weinman 1939 emend. Kreier and Ristic 1974 (Approved Lists 1980)
into this genus in 2002.
