The species Bacillus thermantarcticus was originally described by Nicolaus et al. 1996. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 84 in 2002. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. Upon validation, this name was corrected from (sic) to . In 2012, Coorevits et al. established as the basonym of (Nicolaus et al. 2002) Coorevits et al. 2012 .
