Nomenclatural History
The genus Corynebacterium was originally proposed by Lehmann and Neumann 1896. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Bernard et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2010. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Baek et al. in 2018 and Nouioui et al. in 2018. Collins transferred the members of Gilmour et al. 1961 emend. Gilmour 1974 (Approved Lists 1980) into this genus in 1982. Collins et al. transferred the members of Crombach 1978 (Approved Lists 1980) into this genus in 1989. Baek et al. transferred the members of Funke et al. 1994 into this genus in 2018.
