The species Spirochaeta coccoides was originally described by Dröge et al. 2006. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 110 in 2006. In 2015, established as the basonym of (Dröge et al. 2006) Abt et al. 2012 emend. Hördt et al. 2020 .
