Nomenclatural History
The subspecies Cutibacterium acnes defendens was originally described by Nouioui et al. 2018. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 184 in 2018. Dekio et al. published an emended description of this subspecies in 2019. Nouioui et al. formed this name in 2018 by placing the subspecies McDowell et al. 2016 into the species (Dekio et al. 2015) Scholz and Kilian 2016 emend. Nouioui et al. 2018.
