Nomenclatural History
The genus Streptomyces was originally proposed by Waksman and Henrici 1943. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Pridham and Tressner published an emended description of this genus in 1974. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Witt and Stackebrandt in 1990, Wellington et al. in 1992 and Idris et al. in 2017. Goodfellow et al. transferred the members of Krasil'nikov and Yuan 1961 (Approved Lists 1980) into this genus in 1986. Goodfellow et al. transferred the members of Krasil'nikov 1962 (Approved Lists 1980) into this genus in 1986. Goodfellow et al. transferred the members of Falcão de Morais et al. 1966 (Approved Lists 1980) into this genus in 1986. Goodfellow et al. transferred the members of Cross et al. 1963 (Approved Lists 1980) into this genus in 1986. Goodfellow et al. transferred the members of Matsumae et al. 1968 emend.
